To make money online with this strategy, you certainly need to be familiar with the Pinterest platform in order to start. Pinterest is an image sharing platform where images that are uploaded are called “pins”, hence the name Pinterest. And no, you don’t need to create your own unique pins because you can literally pin any image you see on the internet.
Here is an example of what I’m referring to:

How to Earn Money With Pinterest
Can you make money from Pinterest? Definitely! But you will need a way to convert visitors into sales! That’s where a sales funnel is needed.
Fortunately, you don’t have to create a sales funnel yourself if you don’t want to by using affiliate marketing. You can use other people’s proven sales funnel and make a commission as an affiliate.
Now before I jump into how to turn your Pinterest account into a money making machine, I want to tell you how you will be making money online.
You see, there are many different ways that you can make money off the platform. You can even decide to use paid advertisements to scale things up and generate results faster. But for now, let’s take things slow and not get ahead of ourselves.
You have two options to earn money with Pinterest:
- Promote your own product: This is usually not ideal because most people starting out do not have their own products yet
- Utilize Pinterest to drive traffic to your affiliate link: Where you promote other people’s products and get a commission for the sale
The second option is great for beginners and is my recommended way to get started for this how to earn money with Pinterest guide.
With affiliate marketing, you get paid when someone purchases something or takes a certain action using your link. I have talked about the various models of affiliate marketing here.
Making Your First Dollar With Pinterest: 2 Methods
There are two methods to make money with Pinterest through affiliate marketing; the basic and advanced method.
The basic method involves sending the visitor directly to your affiliate link and is perfect if you are totally new to affiliate marketing and want to get your feet wet.
The advanced method involves creating a landing page to capture the visitor’s email address before redirecting them to the affiliate link. By doing this, it allows you to build up an email list which you can nurture and eventually send other affiliate offers to.
How to Earn Money with Pinterest Step 1: Choose a Niche
The first step involves choosing a niche. In case you haven’t heard of it before, they say the riches are in the niches.
While you can setup a single Pinterest account and target multiple niches, I highly recommend you NOT to. Staying focus on a singular niche will make sure that you get the best results.
Here are some of the most successful Pinterest niches you can choose from:
- Weight loss & Fitness: One of the most popular evergreen niches on Pinterest
- Make money online: Just like this article
- Hobbies (such as gardening, woodworking etc)
When deciding which niche to go for, it is also a good idea to consider what kind of products/services you can promote in your niche. You can look through beginner-friendly affiliate networks like Clickbank and Digistore24.
You also want to consider if a product or service that is able to accept international visitors since this will maximize your earnings.
How to Earn Money with Pinterest Step 2: Setting up Your Pinterest Profile
Once you know what you wish to promote, it’s time to set up your Pinterest profile. Head over to Pinterest and you should see the signup button. Simply follow the steps and you should have your account setup.
Make sure to add a profile photo to the Pinterest profile so that your profile looks legit. You will also be promoted to activate your account through an email that Pinterest sends you when you have registered.
After having your account verified and choosing a username, you should proceed to setup a couple of boards. These are collections of your pins and help you organize them in an orderly way.
Adding Your First Pin
Adding your first pin is easy. Simply click on the net pin button and upload your first pin. For now, don’t add any affiliate links. Instead, add a good description that is relevant to the image that you have uploaded.
Try to add a few of these in order to generate some content for the Pinterest account you have just created. Repeat these a couple of times so that your profile looks great with a dozen of content.
Repin Some Relevant Content
After you have uploaded some pins, it’s time to repin a couple of pins that have been added by other members. Simply search for a keyword that is related to your niche and you will see heaps of pins that you can repin.
Repeat this process (uploading new pins as well as adding existing pins) for a few days to start generating some content on your profile. Remember your goal is to make your profile look alive.
How to Earn Money with Pinterest Step 3: Automating Your Posting Strategy
While this step of this how to earn money with pinterest strategy is not mandatory, I wish to share with you how you can automate your posting strategy.
You can use this simple tool called Tailwind to automate your posting.
This tool allows you to schedule all of your content and Tailwind will pin your board throughout the week. This means that you do not have to login every single day to post your content.
How to Earn Money with Pinterest Step 4: Creating Promotional Pins
Now we have come to our favourite part, where we actually earn money with Pinterest.
For most products on these platforms, you can expect to make around 50% commission per sale. Not too bad given that it isn’t even a product you created huh?
Once your affiliate account is approved, just look for an offer that matches your niche. Grab an affiliate link and you can use a link shorter to shorten your link.
Now you want to start creating your promotional pins. I recommend heading to Canva (a free web-based app) to design your pins. As always, add a short description but this time, make sure to paste your shorten affiliate link in the source url box when you create the pin.
You can set up multiple promotional pins using Tailwind (as explained in how to earn money with Pinterest step 3). Be sure to mix up your promotional pins with “normal pins” that do not contain any affiliate links. This way, your account will not look so spammy, promoting affiliate products after affiliate products.
By doing this, you should be able to earn at least $100 a day online with Pinterest.
By combining affiliate marketing and Pinterest as a traffic source, you will be able to earn money with Pinterest. I have also shared with you how you are able to automate a huge chunk of this process with the Tailwind app.
It is possible to earn money with Pinterest if you are consistent and stick to the strategy that I covered above. The hardest part is not in learning the strategy behind how to earn money with Pinterest but rather being consistent in posting.
Feel free to leave a comment and let me know if this strategy has worked for you and also the issues you face.
